The Murukku Press and its potential :)

I told  you a few days ago that I was awaiting my murukku press. It arrived today. 

 It is an ingenious device out of which you can create amazing vethal, murukku, thenkuzhal and other snacks. The new design makes your work easy and you don't have to use too much pressure  - the machine does most of it for you.  

 Once I have my raw materials in, I shall begin work with it so look out for some crispy snacks, light and crunchy that melts in your mouth. 

 Ideal for a rainy day, to munch during tea time or as an afternoon snack. Basically, whenever you feel the hunger pangs:) 

 Let me see if I can add a video of  how to use the press and make one of these yummicious snack!

The growing product list

It seems to me that I am in this business of home made foods more for the challenge of trying out a new recipe (either a thokku, or pickle, or masala, or podi or a sweet), rather than try and find newer and better means of selling it. I am unable to stop. The creative satisfaction this provides is unending :) I tried pickles like lime and garlic in various ways. Planning to add more healthy and tasty pickles like kalakkai, amla and methi.  I tried a pudina podi and that came out beautifully too.:)  Planning to stock in a small way at a couple of retail outlets.

Indiram turned one month yesterday

Yesterday, on 25th March Indiram turned a month old.  And today the fourth delivery was successfully completed. Spicy Sambhar podi, Chutney podi, Paruppu podi, Karuvepillai podi and Karamuthu podi, Yummmmmyyyyy!! Tomorrow I will be taking you through the preparation of The Pulikachal -  a hot, spicy, tamarind paste that could be mixed with rice and gingelly oil to make the south indian iyengar 's favorite food - The Puliyodarai. Back again - with Inji Puli or Puli Inji - a Onam Sadya recipe.

Ahem!!  Are you guys out there ?  Wondering where I had  disappeared ?  Did you really think I had fallen from the cooking pot into the fire ? 😀or fallen off the edge of the counter ? or stewing in the sink ?  Not at all. I was savouring 😋  my own Inji Puli and could not get a second helping for myself  - it vanished within a few minutes, right under my reluctant eyes. My family wanted it all.  It all started when I left for a short trip to Chennai (btw that's one of the reasons I was absent from my blog ) . I met my sister and she asked me "hey malli, why don't you prepare Inji puli - its a hot favourite with my family and friends."   And when I returned to Bangalore, where I live, that's just what I did!! Inji puli is a mix of ginger, tamarind and garlic , mashed together in oil and serves as a paste to be eaten with rice, as a chutney to be eaten with idlis and dosas and as a spread to be eaten with Indian bread or chapathis.
